Save the Children Thailand has been delivering assistance to children and families affected by the floods in southern Thailand during 2025, while continuing its partnership with Citi Foundation to strengthen disaster preparedness efforts. The collaboration aims to ensure that children—particularly those made vulnerable by crisis—receive continuous protection during both emergency response and recovery phases.
Since November 2025, severe flooding has affected more than 4.2 million people. A total of 723 schools were impacted, disrupting learning for over 76,000 students. Save the Children has responded rapidly across Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat provinces, with a target to reach 35,000 people, including 28,000 children.
Further underscoring its commitment to disaster response, Citi Foundation has activated a US$200,000 relief fund. This crucial funding is dedicated to supporting Save the Children’s comprehensive efforts across four affected nations: Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka.
During the emergency phase, Save the Children Thailand distributed over 2,000 baby kits, children’s kits, and essential household items. The organization also provided 600 life vests to local Disaster Prevention and Mitigation authorities, distributed 600 Safe Back-to-School kits, and supplied learning materials to support psychosocial recovery activities in schools. As of January 2026, more than 15,000 people have been reached.
During the recovery phase, Save the Children is working to ensure that children can return to school in safe and supportive learning environments, while also supporting families in rebuilding their lives and restoring their livelihoods.
The organization is providing stress management and emotional well-being support to parents, caregivers, and children, and strengthening the capacity of local volunteers and communities to better prepare for and respond to future emergencies.
Strengthening Preparedness with Citi Thailand
To ensure timely assistance during emergencies, Save the Children Thailand, in partnership with Citi, organized a baby kit packing activity. Employee volunteers and partners came together to prepare essential supplies tailored to the needs of infants and young children in disaster situations. Each baby kit includes clothing, diapers, hygiene supplies, feeding bottles, and mosquito repellent suitable for young children. The kits are designed to reduce health risks and enable families to continue caring for their children appropriately during recovery after a crisis.
Guillaume Rachou, Executive Director of Save the Children Thailand, said:
“In times of disaster, young children are the most vulnerable. Their health and development can be immediately affected by the lack of basic necessities. Preparing baby kits is therefore not simply about distributing supplies—it is about protecting children’s fundamental right to health and appropriate care from the very first moments of a crisis. Effective humanitarian response does not begin on the day a disaster strikes. It begins with preparedness. Our partnership with Citi Foundation allows us to pre-position baby kits and strengthen distribution systems in advance, ensuring that when crisis hits, young children do not have to wait for assistance and families can care for them safely and immediately.”
Narumon Chivangkur, Citi Country Officer and Banking Head, Citi Thailand, added: "It is a privilege to partner with Save the Children in such a vital initiative. Today, we are proud to have Citi volunteers contributing to the essential kitting activity, reinforcing our commitment to community resilience. This collaboration exemplifies our dedication to supporting vulnerable children and families in Thailand, ensuring they have the necessary resources and protection during and after crises.”
Save the Children Thailand coordinates closely with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Provincial Education Offices, and local social welfare authorities to ensure that assistance reaches children and families effectively and transparently.
